acareerpursuit

Lately, there has been this buzzword all over the internet, on the television as well as the radio. It seemed to be everywhere, and everyone seemed to be worried about it. The buzzword? – Phishing Scams.

There are many tell-tale signs of a phishing scams that one can point out straight away such as the sender’s address (that can either be an email or a phone number). However, today’s scammers that were responsible for the recent cases of phishing scams are better equipped with skills to make their phishing look more legitimate.

With the push in digitalization as well as the rise in digital scammers. It puts most of us in a vulnerable state when we transact our hard-earned money all online, everything can disappear with just a click of a button.

Confused with where and what to look out for? No worries, in this article, we will be sharing with you some simple tips on what to look out for.

Signs of a Phishing Scam

1. Receiving Unexpected Messages

“DING”

Oh, is that a text from bae? Nope it isn’t. Maybe it turned out to be a text from ‘Singpost’ or a text from a bank. In cases like this, the context of the message becomes even more important.

Imagine your bae texting you asking about having dinner at a Chinese restaurant tonight when you already know that dinner will be at home. You may have felt that something is off.

Similarly in cases of phishing, you may receive a message or email that alerts you on something that you might not have expected. Like an undelivered parcel or a reset in your bank account when you have not requested for any.

2. Broken / Lengthy Links

Since the most common way of phishing is through a link that is sent to us by the scammers, the next easiest way to spot such scams are through the links.

As these scammers are using unofficial websites or links as a phishing tool, they usually have in common longer than usual links or a broken link that looks different from the legitimate ones.

One tip that we would recommend is to check on the domain name and to be safe, only to access any resetting of passwords or transactions through the official websites.

3. Deals that are too good to be true

Ever receive a job offer that pays you a couple of hundred dollars a day while working at home?

Sounds too good to be true, isn’t it? This is likely to also be a scam impersonating a reputable or big corporation / company.

It is better to be safe than sorry, and the importance of verifying and staying vigilant while transacting online becomes even more so important today. Especially with our hard-earned money.

Oh and talking about our hard earned money, ever thought of ways you can make them work harder? Don’t worry, we aren’t dropping you any link to click on to key in your bank particulars!

But if you do ever think about keeping your money safe, and at the same time compound them to beat inflation or getting covered while doing so , don’t hesitate to chat with us to find out how.
